"Martinmas Time" is a traditional song about a young girl who is being sexually harassed by a group of soldiers. They force her to swear a solemn oath that she will come to their barracks after darkness falls that day. Thankfully she outsmarts the soldiers by cutting her hair and dressing as a boy soldier, she approaches the barracks proclaiming the news that another troop of soldiers are approaching, in search of quarters. The soldiers give her some money and tell her to go elsewhere... She leaves the ribbons from her hair tied to the quarter gates as she departs and the soldiers soon realise what has happened, by this time however the young girl has long since escaped on her horse.
